Curtis has a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Missouri State University. After moving to Los Angeles 15 years ago, he was a personal trainer, a bass player, and construction worker, before meeting his mentor and friend Master Shen Hsu. Curtis apprenticed with Master Hsu at his Sherman Oaks office for three years while earning his Masters in Oriental Medicine at Samra University, which he received in 2006.
Under Master Hsu’s expert eye, Curtis became proficient in the more traditional folk medicine of Asia, like cupping, Gua Sha, and massage. In 2005, Curtis received his Reiki attunements from Reiki Master Jeremy Kennedy. Reiki is an esoteric form of healing that focuses more on the subtle, subconscious aspects of our being to release emotional/mental programming. Curtis uses these ancient hands-on techniques and combines the potent energy work of Craniosacral to soothe the nervous system and promote circulation.
In addition, Curtis has 12 years of bodywork experience. He combines various elements and modalities of healing into each treatment, depending upon the desired goals and healing involved. The various techniques that Curtis uses are: Acupuncture, Chinese Massage, Cupping (moving and stationary), Gua Sha (aka scrapping), Craniosacral, and Reiki.
Curtis works well with physical pain and stress, but more recently, he has found himself on a path towards Shakti and Divine Feminine power, which he utilizes to clear out subconscious programming and subtle body trauma. His style incorporates different techniques to affect different levels of each person’s true essence to bring about positive change, transformation, and healing manifestation.
Tikkun Holistic Spa is honored to have a true healing therapist who can combine the different healing modalities to return each and every client to wholeness and vitality.
In Curtis’s Own Words:
“My acupuncture treatments are unique compared to most because I use several different techniques within a single treatment. I don’t adhere to any one single dogma of treatment and thus adapt it to the client with the goal of having a therapeutic effect. This attitude applies whether just using massage or combining everything together.”
“I injured my back from yoga about a two weeks ago. It was one of the back bends which I’ve been doing for years. I felt something get tweaked in my back instantly; however I didn’t think much of it. As the days passed, the pain in my upper right back became worse. After about the fifth day, it hurt to even breathe. I never had this type of pain ever in my life. I knew I had to get help, but over a plethora of options that’s available, I didn’t know where to start. Luckily my sister and another friend of mine had been going to a center for the same back problems (from yoga). Apparently Curtis fixed my friend’s back with one session. My sis recommended that I go see him and take it from there. I made an appointment the same morning (skipped work) because the pain was unbearable. Curtis was able to squeeze me in the same afternoon. I met with him and I told him all my symptoms. First off he is extremely knowledgeable, and he thoroughly listened to me and was attentive to all of my needs.
He started off with a deep xanaxonlinebuy tissue massage and really focused on the “hot” spot. I later learned the area in chiropractic terms is called “T-6” zone. Apparently the muscles that were affected were close to my ribs, which explain the excruciating pain when I breathe. Then he did acupuncture on my back. It was my first acupuncture ever. It felt weird at first, but I was desperate and ended up dozing off after a few minutes because it felt so good. He then tried to crack me in a few areas. Then he finished me off with large pad of salonpas (icy cold at first and then super hot).
He took the time to explain to me the different remedies I can do at home myself (i.e. Epsom salt baths and heated water pads). He even took the time to Google how the heated water pads looked like for my reference, since I didn’t have any clue.
Well the very next day, I went back to 45 minutes of spinning and 90 of power yoga. I must say the pain was almost non-existent. Working out definitely helped as it brought heat and blood flow to my back. This is something that Curtis had mentioned I should do. I’m not about to quit yoga soon… it’s just a realization that I’m not young anymore and more prone to injuries.” ~Sharr K.
“I usually see Curtis for acupuncture and massage. The best massages I’ve ever had by a wide margin.” ~Sarah F.
“I recently went in for a deep tissue massage and acupuncture session with Curtis. Best deep tissue massage I’ve ever had, hands down. I was a little bit intimidated by the idea of acupuncture, but Curtis walked me through it. I was truly amazed at the results. The procedure is the easiest thing ever, and I felt so calm and rejuvenated after. It’s like taking a refreshing nap that makes you energized and balanced.” ~Sean F.
I was referred to Curtis by a client of mine for chronic coccyx pain I had. Acupuncture was the last modality I had not yet tried to unburden myself from it. I had done acupuncture before, but Curtis was by far the most comprehensive session I have ever had. He not only did an extensive massage with essential oil therapy first, but then gave me Reiki and acupuncture.
He is very intuitive a natural healer, professional, knowledgeable, and one of the sweetest people I have come to know. He’s gentle and genuinely cares for his patients. Needless to say, I have been seeing Curtis ever since and I highly recommend him to everyone.” ~Natalie N.
“Curtis was highly recommended to me by a good friend. I had a pain and tightness in my neck and shoulder that was bothering me and wouldn’t go away. Curtis has a gentle nature and a down to earth spirit that immediately put me at ease. He is a wonderful healer and massage therapist. He is highly sensitive, intuitive, and adept at focusing in on the areas that need the most work and then he adjusts the pressure accordingly. He completely alleviated the pain in my neck and shoulder, which to this day has not returned. The world would be an infinitely better place if everyone could go to Curtis once a week to relieve their pains or just for weekly maintenance. I highly recommend Curtis!” ~Eddie D.
